Free fatty acid

Not All fatty acids are the same.

Omega-3 fatty acid supplements made from fish oils are commercially available in three distinct forms and vary greatly in bio availability.

TRIGLYCERIDE:
The vast majority of Omega-3 fish oil products are in the triglyceride form. These triglyceride Omega-3 fish oils contain as little as 30% EPA and DHA per gram.

ETHYL ESTER :
This type of fish oil is “esterfied” using the solvent ethanol and represents approximately 15-20% of all Omega-3 fish oil sold. While ethyl ester Omega-3 fish oil provide approximately 50% EPA and DHA per gram, they are the most difficult to absorb into the blood stream.

FREE FATTY ACID :
The free fatty acid form is the result of a unique patented process that removes non-beneficial components of fish oil, thereby providing more EPA and DHA per gram. The free fatty acid form has been clinically proven to be more efficiently absorbed than the ethyl ester and triglyceride form.

Why are free from fatty acids the best?

Because of their chemical complexities triglyceride and ethyl ester forms of fatty acids require breakdown by the pancreatic enzyme lipase into free fatty acids before absorption can occur. Free fatty acids are absorbed without metabolism resulting in enhanced bio availability in the digestive process.
